MW wins USA Today Poll for 2015-2016 America’s Best Athletic Program.

Virginia Living chose MLWGS as one of the Commonwealth’s top schools in the category of Athletics. Virginia Living State of Education 2015 on newsstands Friday, Sept. 11.

Walker included in the ‘Virginia School Board Association Showcases for Success’ for its Senior Seminar and Mentorship Program, Spring 2016.

Maggie Walker welcomed into the NFL Super Bowl High School Honor Roll, January 2016.

2015 MLWGS Yearbook wins first place in VHSL competition October 2015.

The Class of 2016: 175 Graduates. As a class, they have performed a total of 34,349 hours of community service. This is an average of 196 community service hours per student. They were awarded over $15.5 million in scholarship offers. Their average GPA was 4.0. Their average SAT score was 2,063 (Math-680, Reading-701, Writing-682). Graduates are going to 57 different colleges, 115 are staying in-state, 56 are going out-of-state, and two are  studying abroad, one in the United Kingdom and one in Canada. Of the 115 staying in-state, 88 (or 77%) are going to one of these four state schools: The University of  Virginia, The College of William and Mary, Virginia Commonwealth University and Virginia Tech. 8 were National Merit Finalists and 67 more received Commendations in the National Merit Program.  3  received National Merit Scholarships. 7 were Presidential Scholar Candidates with 1 named Presidential Scholar.

MLWGS Senior is National Recipient of the Prominent Finland-U.S. Senate Youth Exchange Scholarship.

MLWGS Senior is chosen for Governor’s Council on Youth Entrepreneurship.

Walker Senior wins 1st Place at Metro Richmond STEM Fair, advances to International Science & Engineering Fair, winning several awards.

Walker Senior wins 1st Place at Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair.

We the People wins Virginia Regional competition, December 2015 and State Crown in January 2016. Walker heads to the national competition in Washington, DC April 23rd, advancing to the national finals for the 18th time on April 25th.

We the People earns 5th Place in National title. After two days of competition held the last weekend of April in Washington, DC, the MLWGS team advanced to the final round of competition on Monday, April 25th. Final standings were announced with representatives from all 50 states for more than 1,200 high school students.

MLWGS Wins VHSL Scholastic Bowl Regional. 

Mech Tech Dragons (Robotics Team 422) Wins Silver in the 2016 FedEx Challenge.

Team 422 Junior Wins Dean’s List Award at 1st Robotics Central VA Competition. This award celebrates outstanding student leaders.

Team 422 were recipients of the Entrepreneurship Award at the Chesapeake District Championship. Onward to Nationals in St. Louis.

Technology Students Association (TSA) students excel at State Conference with 1st place event team and second place for student essay.

Math in Sports, where students teamed up to create predictive models to fill out NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Brackets. Two Walker students went all out on this project. Their statistical model not only predicted Villanova beating UNC in the championship game, but it landed them in the top 1% of all brackets submitted (over 9 million) to ESPN’s Tournament Challenge.

Walker posts strong results with three scoring teams in the kryptos competition. κρυπτοσ or kryptos is a contest open to any and all undergraduate students. The theme of the contest is centered around the breaking, or cryptanalysis, of ciphers (secret writing).

The French Honor Society raises money through a coin drive for victims of the Paris terrorist attacks.  Funds will be distributed through the Red Cross.

Walker Sophomore wins the National English Honor Society Writing Contest.

The students of Relevance Rising makes their fifth trip to Tzununá, Guatemala where our students act as teachers of English and Ambassadors of the United States to the children of the village.

Walker Model Congress hosts a conference with keynote speakers Dr. Mary Frances Berry and Congressman Dave Brat February 11-12, 2016.

Model United Nations Club compete at VAMUN XXXV. Students earn Verbal Commendations, Honorable Mentions, Outstanding and Best Delegates.

Model United Nations Club hosts former Prime Australian Minister, Julia Gillard, at GSMUN XIX, March 11-12, 2016.

Walker Debate wins Catholic Forensics League State Championship. 

Walker Debate wins VHSL Regional Championship.

Walker Forensics takes second place at State Championship, but Walker student wins 1st Place in Oral Interpretation.

Walker wins Adam Smith Regional Competition, sponsored by the VA Council on Economic Education. Advances to finished 2nd Place at the State Championship.

MLWGS earns Superior Rating at the  District Orchestra Assessment Festival, the highest rating possible from the professional adjudicators.

Four MLWGS music students earn seats in the Senior Regional Orchestra and gain eligibility to audition for the All-State Orchestra Event.

Three students participate in South Central Senior Regional Orchestra.  Qualifying for selection into this prestigious event requires a thorough blind audition process that takes place each year in September. More than two-thirds of those who audition will not qualify. At stake is the opportunity to perform in a one-hundred-piece symphony orchestra under the direction of an acclaimed guest conductor.

Three Walker students earn seats in All-State Band and Orchestra.

Fall Drama: ‘The Crucible’ by Arthur Miller, performed November 19-21, 2015.

Spring Drama: ‘Urinetown, The Musical,’ performed March 3-5, 2016.

2016 Scholastic Art Awards: MLWGS has 71 total awards: 18 Gold Keys including 2 Portfolios, 20 Silver Keys including 3 Portfolios, and 33 Honorable Mentions including 5 Portfolios.

2016 Scholastic Writing Awards: MLWGS has 17 total awards: 3 Gold Keys, 7 Silver Keys, and 7 Honorable Mentions.

Walker sports wins VA in USA Today Poll for Best Athletic Program (also noted above in school awards).

Walker wins the VHSL 2A Wells Farge Cup for the third straight year. The award is presented to schools who succeed across all sports.

Seniors are recipients of RTD Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award and 1st runner-up.

Seniors are recipients of 2016 The Allstate Foundation/VHSL Achievement Award.

Lexus of Richmond, Pursuit of Perfect Leadership Award Weekly Winners: October 12th, December 2nd, 2015, January 11, 2016, and March 4, 2016.

MLWGS Golf Conference 33 Champions, 3rd Consecutive Year.

2015-2016 Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams ‘repeating’ Conference 33 Champions with two individual champions and one new meet record.

Congratulations Maggie Walker Cross Country…Boys and Girls 2A Regional Winners for the third consecutive year!

2015-2016 Boys and Girls Cross Country Teams ‘3-peating’ VHSL State Champions.

Boys & Girls teams, 17-18-year-old division, win Cross Country National Championship in Albuquerque, December 2015. There were seven MLWGS runners on those two teams, with five of the seven earning All-American awards. Another runner earned an All-American award in the 15-16 age group.

2015-2016 Boys and Girls Indoor Track ‘3-peating’ VHSL State Champions. One runner earned five first place finishes!

Girls Basketball wins 2nd Place in Conference 33 for the first time!

MLWGS Regional and State Repeating VHSL Diving Champion: taking 1st place in the Women’s 1-meter dive competition.

MLWGS Swim Team at Regional & State Competition: At the Regional swim meet, MLWGS Girls came in first, and defended their championship title at States, while the Boys came in a close second at regionals while earning a second place finish at States.

Wrestling team captures 2nd place in Conference Championship with three wrestlers winning 1st place in their weight class.  On to Regionals!

Walker has its first ever Conference, Regional, and State Wrestling Champion.

Dragon baseball player signs a national letter of intent to attend William and Mary on a baseball scholarship.

Boys & Girls Outdoor Track are Conference, Region, and State Championship teams for the third consecutive year.

Individual outdoor track state champions for 3200, 1600, 800-meter races, and pole vault and triple jump.

State team champions in outdoor track for 4×400 and 4×800 relay races.

1st ever State Championship title for Walker Baseball. Individual player named State 2A Player of the Year and coach is named Coach of the Year.

Boys and girls soccer are Conference champions.

Boys tennis team wins conference, region and state championship.

Girls tennis team wins conference and region titles.

Girls tennis has individual and runner-up state champions.

MLWGS GSMA hosts Conference with participants from 14  High Schools in RVA and Beyond on November 12, 2015.

Walker Senior named a 2015 Nickelodeon HALO (Helping and Leading Others) honoree.

MLWGS Student promotes proposed Capitol Square Women’s Monument by raising money and awareness.

Walker Senior named one of Virginia’s Top Two Youth Volunteers selected in the 21st Annual National Awards Program.

MLWGS Director to serve on the VCU ECE (Electrical and Computer Engineering) Advisory Board.

4th Annual Pat Taylor Teaching Award is split between two Walker teachers.

MLWGS mathematics faculty member receives the Lucien T. Hall, Jr. Distinguished Service Award presented by the Greater Richmond Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
