Safe travels to our students and faculty participating in international trips over spring break

London 2022

Traveling over spring break are students from the following classes;

1) The Evolution of London Senior Seminar is going to England.  Led by Kerry Sheppard who teaches ‘The Evolution of London,’ and accompanied by Celie Boswell of the English Department, they will examine the historical and contemporary manifestations of London’s culture— political, religious, and ideological shifts– as depicted in literature (fiction and nonfiction) and film.

2) Dan Brown is taking his AP Comparative Government class to Ireland.  The trip will travel to Dublin, Ireland and Belfast, Northern Ireland. The emphasis will be on key themes of AP Comparative Government including the functioning of Parliamentary Governments, Coordination between supranational organizations (European Union) with non-member Nations (United Kingdom), as well as the theme of Political Cleavages as represented in Northern Ireland’s “Troubles”. The trip will include not only visiting historic sites and government buildings but will enable students to engage in Q and A with politicians as well as participants in critical political events.  David Bortz will also attend as a chaperone.

3) Madeline Paturel is taking students from her French Language class on a new Canada trip. This international trip will provide MWGS students who have taken or are currently enrolled in French to experience a francophone culture in both Montréal and Québec. Over the course of this trip, students will visit important cultural sites including Notre Dame de Montréal, McGill University, Parc de la Chute-Montmorency (a national park), a cabane à sucre (maple sugar house) and more. Forum, the company managing the tour, has included a fantastic mix of activities so that every student can experience something they enjoy and something new. Their visits will be guided by a local tour guide who is bilingual, giving students linguistic learning opportunities as well as cultural ones. Our group will be touring privately, meaning we will not mix with any other student groups for any of our tours, transportation or hotel stays.

Bring back pictures.! We look forward to hearing about your adventures.
