10/20/24 Sunday Night Update

10/20/24

MLWGS will be closed tomorrow, Monday October 21st, 2024 for a teacher work day.  We will re-open on Tuesday October 22nd, 2024.

AP Exam Fee Payment

Attention Advanced Placement (AP) students and their parents: AP exam fees were incorporated into student fees this year. We realize that AP exam fees can be costly and may need additional time for payment. As announced earlier in the school year, families may pace themselves through paying for AP exams through November 1st. Beginning November 2nd, the $40 College Board late fee will be applied.

All details about AP exam ordering and the timeline leading up to May testing can be found here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hlRy5aJqGrIL4rzVlf8MbMvnCA2cWqgt/edit?usp=sharing&ouid=107178821893099947385&rtpof=true&sd=true

Foundation:

Annual Parent Participation Competition Now Underway!

Which class will take the early lead in this year’s Foundation annual fund participation competition? 2025? 2026? 2027? 2028? We’ll see.

The Foundation’s Annual Fund Campaign supports many of the amazing academic and extracurricular experiences that set MLWGS apart, including our academic clubs and teams, student travel, teacher professional development, student aid, and more. The Annual Fund Parent Participation Campaign is a friendly (but fierce, lol!) competition that recognizes the class with the highest percentage of parents making  annual fund donations each year. All donations of any size count. And each year, the winning class gets bragging rights and a sweet treat party courtesy of the Foundation!

Calling all Business Owners/Managers

Do you own or manage a business? Check out MLWGS Business Partnership Opportunities available through the MLWGS Foundation. Proceeds benefit the Foundation, PTSA, and Boosters. And for even more info and options, contact Ginger O’Neil, [email protected] or 703-801-2506 (cell).

Every day at Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School I am so inspired by our students.  Our students work so hard in the classroom, yet find time to come out and support their classmates at athletic and cultural events. Our school is indeed a very special place. So tonight, I will sign off with a challenge for us to keep up this momentum with a quote from Mahatma Gandhi: “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”

Have a great evening and GO DRAGONS!
