MLWGS Quiz Bowl results at NAQT Championship

Quiz Bowl Nationals 2023

Over the Memorial Day weekend Maggie Walker Quiz Bowl sent two teams to Atlanta to compete against over 300 other teams in the High School National Championship Tournament.  This is the biggest quiz bowl tournament in the country, and we represented Maggie Walker really well!

Sam McNamee (’24-Chesterfield) led Timothy Porter (’24-Henrico), Risshi Naavaal (’24-Henrico), and Yash Saxena (’24-Henrico) on the A team to a respectable 7-3 record in the prelims Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning to earn a spot in the playoffs Sunday afternoon.  The team finished in the top 50 of the total field and Sam earned an individual award as the 33rd overall top scorer in the tournament!

Vien Nguyen (’23-Henrico) led Bharathi Kancharla (’24-Henrico), Stella Broome (’23-Henrico), Eric Hu (’24-Henrico), and Devesh Kumar (’24-Henrico) on the B team to a 5-5 record in the prelims and finished in the middle of the field, well ahead of many schools’ A teams!

Juanita Lasswell, long-time Quiz Bowl assistant, also joined the team for this tournament.

MLWGS Quiz Bowl is looking forward to bringing three teams to our final tournament of the year on June 10th, the National Scholastic Championship, in Chicago.  Go Dragons!
