Finishing Strong

Speech and debate teams 2026

The end of the first quarter will greet us this week.  On Friday, we will have our pep rally to recognize our fall sports teams and to enhance their mojo as they advance into conference, regional, and state tournaments.  Following our pep rally we will hold our annual field games competition.  Monday and Tuesday will be student holidays.  Please note that Tuesday (4 November) will also be parent conferences from 12noon to 7pm…our sign-up genius will be out soon.

Students and parents should have received an email from me this morning containing the links to Student and Parent Satisfaction Surveys.  The survey window will be open until midnight on Sunday, 2 November 2014.  Thank you for investing a few minutes providing feedback that we can use to continually improve our service to our students and families.  If you did not receive the link, please let me know.

Speaking of feedback, our SCA leadership invited students to provide feedback on our dress code last week.  After being synthesized, the SCA leadership will deliver recommendations for a dress code update to the administrative team.  Before being approved by our school board, staff and parent groups will be involved in vetting the recommendations.  We plan to have an updated code ready for presentation to/approval by our board in time for the 2015-2016 school year.

Near the bottom of our homepage (www.mlwgs.com) you will see an icon for “online fee payments”.  As usual, you will be alerted when there is a payment which may be due of your child and you will have the option to pay online (we will continue to accept payment via check and cash as well).  We hope this is helpful to your family as a convenience feature.

A beautiful celebration of Bear’s life occurred in our auditorium on Saturday.  The planning was done by a committee that consisted of a broad cross section of our community.  Special thanks are in order for our English department for their collaborative leadership in creating a fitting tribute to the life of Bear O’Bryan and to all of those who participated.  I have attached an electronic copy of the program for everyone’s reference.

AY27 Snapshot #2: Coming back to life

The mornings are getting darker, summer is winding down, and there is a different kind of energy around school. I guess I should be sad to see summer go, but that means the school year is right around the corner. And, of course, school supplies. I already have pastel pencils, felt-tip pens, binders, and more…
