Our NHS Presidents, Isabella Lee and Bryce Pardo, were recognized as NHS Scholarship Semi-Finalists, each winning $3,200. Pooja Muthuraj was recognized as a Finalist, winning $5,625 and invited to “NHS Trailblazer Leadership Weekend” this past weekend where it was announced at a culminating gala Monday evening that she won an additional $5,000 in recognition of her work under the NHS pillar of “Scholarship.” More details about her award can be found in the following article: https://rvahub.com/2022/04/26/maggie-walker-governors-school-senior-wins-national-honor-society-scholarship-award/
NHS Advisors were also invited to attend this weekend, and Pooja and Dr. Rachel Loving visited the Department of Education yesterday to participate idea-sharing session with school leaders from every state and federal employees. Pooja and Dr. Loving were selected to work collaboratively with school leaders, including the National Principal of the Year, Beth Houf, to develop proposals for addressing equity issues in education. Additionally, Pooja was given the opportunity to advocate for increased world language education in public schools while DOE employees took notes of her comments. She was able to meet the US Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, and hear from a number of other top leaders in the field! Please congratulate Pooja on her success!
