Congratulations to the following students for their consistent academic accomplishments:

  •  Brenden Stremler – Chesterfield

“Brenden Stremler is truly one of the most intellectually gifted students with whom I have had the privilege to work in my 17-year tenure at Maggie Walker Governor’s School,” said Senior Counselor Dr. Rachel Loving. “His insatiable curiosity and genuine passion for learning have driven him to excel in every academic challenge he undertakes. He is a genuine and respected individual whose intellectual talents are matched by his humility and kindness. Brenden’s contributions to Maggie Walker Governor’s School are vast and varied. In my most recent meeting with him, I was struck by how grateful he is to have attended this school and to have the opportunity to learn from our faculty. My first thought upon hearing him share his gratitude was We are the lucky ones for being able to work with you!

 Reese Wu – Chesterfield

“Reese Wu is an exceptionally bright, conscientious, motivated student, said Michael White, Language Department Chair. “She excelled in Russian 1 as a sophomore but couldn’t take Russian 2 as a junior, due to a scheduling conflict. During the year-long hiatus, she refused to let her skills atrophy, and when she returned to Russian 2 as a senior, she joined the new cohort seamlessly and has continued to shine.”

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by the executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors. In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative, and performing arts. In 2015, the program was again extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields. Each year, up to 161 students are named as Presidential Scholars, one of the nation’s highest honors for high school students.

More information about the program can be found at http://www.ed.gov/psp.
