Chicago, Illinois, June 10-11, 2023, PACE National Scholastic Championship.
Over the past weekend, Maggie Walker Quiz Bowl sent three teams to Chicago to compete on the national level in the National Scholastic Championship (NSC) Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence (PACE), a 72-team competition. Once again, our Quiz Bowl teams represented Maggie Walker really well!
The A team consisting of captain Sam McNamee (’24-Chesterfield), Timothy Porter (’24-Henrico), Yash Saxena (’24-Henrico), and Vien Nguyen (’23-Henrico) finished in 18th place.
The B team consisting of captain Bharathi Kancharla (’24-Henrico), Stella Broome (’23-Henrico), Eric Hu (’24-Henrico), and Devesh Kumar (’24-Henrico) finished in 55th place.
The C team consisting of captain Brenden Stremler (’25-Chesterfield), Liam Reed (’24-Chesterfield), Nate Stewart (’24-Chesterfield), and Amanda Campbell (’25-Hanover) finished in 48th place.
Only two of these twelve students are graduating seniors, most of them will be heading back to Chicago in June 2024 armed with another year of knowledge for an even stronger finish!
The teams were accompanied by Coach Drew Austen and his wife, and long-time Quiz Bowl assistant Juanita Lasswell. All of them remarked on the incredibly challenging nature of this competition, comparable to college-level tournaments. While there, the students also enjoyed Chicago’s best deep-dish pizzas at Giordano’s, the city’s premiere pizza establishment.
Good job, Dragons! Go enjoy your summer now,
