Kristin Janssen named Executive Director of MLWGS

Front of MW building

Dear Maggie Walker Families and Friends,

The MLWGS Regional School Board and Superintendents met in Closed Session on Tuesday to discuss and confirm the selected candidate for the new Executive Director position. It is with great pleasure that I introduce Mrs. Kristin Janssen.

Mrs. Janssen began her career in education as an English teacher at Colonial Heights High School. After 10 years, she transitioned to a gifted coordinator, then became an assistant principal and CTE administrator. Eventually, she was named principal, a role she held for 12 years. She later left the principalship and high school to serve as the director of curriculum and assessment in the central office. A little over two years ago, she left Colonial Heights and joined Buckingham County Public Schools as the director of curriculum and instruction.

She applied for the executive director position at MLWGS because she missed being in a high school every day with students. Additionally, she has a parent’s knowledge of MLWGS, as one of her sons attended and graduated from the school in 2023.

While there is so much more I could share about Mrs. Janssen, she can do that as she transitions over the next few weeks. Her official start date is July 1, 2025. She will be providing dates and times over the summer when she will be available to meet with families and friends of MLWGS.

Sincerely,

Dr. James Taylor
