If your child is an academically oriented current 8th-grade student, then you should consider Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School as their next step.

The Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School for Government and International Studies (MLWGS) is an innovative public high school offering a comprehensive college preparatory program emphasizing government, international studies, science, mathematics, languages, and fine arts.  The school serves students selected on the basis of aptitude and interest in its mission.

MLWGS will present an information forum for students and families interested in knowing more about the program and the admissions process on the school campus, on October 28th.  There will be four 1¼ hour sessions divided by district.  The sessions are as follows: 8 AM–Richmond,  10 AM–Henrico, 1 PM–Chesterfield, 3 PM– Hanover & small divisions. 

Located in the heart of Richmond, Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School provides unparalleled educational opportunities and personalized learning.  MLWGS was ranked #4 Best Public High School in America and #1 Best Public High School in Virginia in 2022 by Niche.  MLWGS was ranked #1 for Best Public High School Teachers in Virginia. With our last graduation, 179 members of the class of 2023 earned over $13.3 million in scholarship offers, had a 98% college acceptance rate, four students were selected as Presidential Scholar Candidates, fourteen students earned National Merit Scholarships, and the class earned an average GPA of 4.30.
