The MLWGS team was also recognized for their design and programming work.   They received the Quality Award at Blacksburg and the Autonomous Award at Deep Run.

L to R:   Cheryl Kaplan (parent of a MLWGS and Mech Tech Alum Ryan Kaplan), Mark Sailer – faculty sponsor, and Samantha Marrs (also a parent of a MLWGS and Mech Tech  Alum – Olivia Marrs)

In addition to the success on the field, one of the team mentors was recognized for her outstanding mentoring of the team as a District Woody Flowers Finalist. Samantha Marrs has been a mentor with the team for 12 seasons and has worked with our Outreach team. She conducts our annual student leadership training and helps students in applying for corporate sponsorships for team operations. Samantha has also helped mentor a lot of students in the Advocacy of STEM at the local, state, and national levels.  She also is a great mentor to new mentors on the team and we are very fortunate to have her as one of the mentors working with the team.

If anyone is interested in Supporting the team for their trip to Houston or in the future, please reach out to the MLWGS Foundation or to Mark Sailer [email protected]
