MLWGS Class of 2028 Orientation News

Mil-wigs Update

Happy Holidays, everyone.  There are a few pieces of information that I would like to share.

The Glorious MLWGS PTSA hosted our annual faculty/staff holiday luncheon today.  In addition to being too humble to allow me to list their names or include their photo, our PTSA includes some highly gifted culinary artists!  Our faculty and staff enjoyed quite a spread of homemade dishes and desserts.  We are indeed fortunate to be part of such a wonderful and supportive community of parents!

The Counseling Department is still awaiting receipt of PSAT score reports.  On Friday December 12th, the College Board stated that our PSAT score results were still being processed and had not yet been shipped.  We are aware that some other area schools have received their score reports.   College Board has indicated that score reports are shipped out in batches and that ours could be sent with a batch in the middle of the week of December 15th.  Unfortunately, this means it is unlikely that PSAT score results will be available before the winter break.  If the scores do arrive before break begins, the counseling department will prioritize score distribution to juniors so that they may begin preparing for SATs over winter break.  Otherwise, scores will be distributed during lunchtime assemblies in January.

The MLWGS Advocacy Group in partnership with EduPAC hosted a legislative coffee during which students engaged with local legislators in advance of the 2015 Virginia General Assembly Session and Capital Day.  We remain hopeful that such political action at the state level will help to protect k-12 education in our region and across the Commonwealth as the Governor’s budget amendments make their way through the General Assembly.

The Director’s Circle Foundation Event was hosted this week at VCU’s Scott House.  A special thank you is in order for Samantha Marrs for her generosity in securing this wonderful venue for the event and to the foundation staff for coordinating a wonderful evening.  In addition to hearing from our School Board Chair (Kevin Hazzard, Goochland) another highlight of the evening was hearing from Miss. Reed Canaan and Miss. Samantha Schwartzkopf both of whom are seniors at MLWGS who shared reflections from their tenures at this wonderful school.
