Mil-wigs Update

Champs

We seem to have navigated the nuance associated with an unusual week with no problem!  In addition to the Royals victory in the World Series and the Frank Beamer retirement announcement other notable athletic news from the week of 11/2-11/6 includes:

Boys and girls cross country teams this week won regional championships for the third straight year.  Best of luck 3-peating at the state meet on November 14th!

While seasons ended for our field hockey team which fell in overtime in the regional playoffs and our boys and girls volley teams which battled to the conference semi-finals, we all should remain very proud of the commitment to excellence these student athletes and coaches demonstrated from start to finish.

On Monday, our staff engaged in professional development that is grounded in our strategic goal pertaining to supporting student social/emotional well-being.  We hosted author/professor Trish Jennings who is an internationally recognized leader in the field of mindfulness in education.  As you know, college apps for seniors, rigorous schedules for juniors and sophomores, and the end of the honeymoon period for freshmen all seem coalesce into added student stress near the end of the first quarter making the timing of this activity very apropos.  Often underestimated, is the professional intensity associated with teaching exceptionally bright students.  Indeed, we all may benefit from our pursuit of mindfulness strategies!  On Tuesday, parent conferences were very well attended.

Our school advisory council met this week and is continuing its work in several areas including the 2016-2017 school calendar, the organization of resources for ready teacher reference (speakers, travel opportunities, etc.), the exploration of technology as it pertains to instructional use, and the evaluation of our grading scales/grade weighting.

Looking toward the week of 11/9 items of interest include: Monday marks the end of the first quarter; we host our “Information Forums” for interested 8th grade students and families on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings; Veterans Day and Sophomore hearing screening on Wednesday; and, Regional Board meeting on Thursday.

Thank you for your support of our awesome school!
