The Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School Executive Board meeting will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at 9:00 am. Location: MLWGS, Room 153.
The board is delighted to welcome the Dragons back for the 2025-2026 academic year and wishes them much success with their studies and activities.
During this meeting, the board has several important responsibilities. They will review the current financial reports and personnel changes. Additionally, they will discuss the progress of the existing strategic plan and talk about goals for development of a replacement plan, anticipated for mid-2026.
Other important tasks to be completed include approval of the VDOE authorization of signatures for MLWGS, certifying the school’s crisis manual, and finalizing the 2025-2026 student handbook. Additionally, they will review and approve the health and dental renewal rates, which will take effect on October 1, 2025. They will also consider and be asked to approve a request by the executive director to realign some current staffing positions, as well as a waiver of the first-read and approval for a food service provider. Lastly, the board will be asked to approve an international trip to Spain in 2026.
During the first reading section, the board will review several policy updates, including new policies on internet safety and the use of AI by staff and students. Additionally, Ms. Kerry Sheppard will present a proposal for an international trip to Iceland and Denmark during spring break in 2026.
