The Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School Executive Board meeting will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at 9:00 am. Location: Room 153 (Adjunct Classroom). The Executive Board comprises members from Petersburg, Goochland, Powhatan, New Kent, Richmond, and Dr. Beth Teigen, representing the Superintendent’s Steering Committee.
The board agenda can be viewed here.
In June, the executive board will review several consent items, which include the school’s monthly personnel and financial reports. They will also be asked to approve the Fiscal Year 2025 Assignment of Reserve Funds, as required by GASB 54 from the Governmental Accounting Standards Board. Additionally, the board will consider the renewal of school business insurance with VACorp for FY2026 and approve an FY2025 budget amendment. This amendment is necessary to comply with the General Assembly’s spring 2025 action granting a one-time bonus of $1,000 for teachers and SOQ-funded school staff. This bonus is part of a larger state budget allocation, which includes $134.4 million for this purpose. If available, the board will also award bids for the installation of a security partition, with bids due by June 10.
The board will also receive year-end reports, including the AY25 Field Trip Report, the AY25 Wellness Report, the AY25 Fundraising Report, the AY26 GS Foundation Enhancement Report, and the new polling place election agreement for the primary on June 17.
During the review section of the agenda, the board will be asked to prepare for the August approval of standard actions. These include the annual authorization of signatures for VDOE, certification of the 25-26 Crisis Manual, the 25-26 Student Handbook, and renewal of health and dental rates. Additionally, a new request for an international student trip to Spain in June 2026 will be included for review.
Dr. Teigen will provide a verbal update on the status of the executive director search for the MLWGS community.
Persons unable to attend in person but wanting to address the Executive School Board during the public comment period are invited to use this form to submit their comments by 10:00 am, Wednesday, June 11, 2025, or email their remarks to the Board Clerk.
