The Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School Executive Board meeting will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 9:00 am. Location: Room 153 (Adjunct Classroom). The Executive Board comprises members from Petersburg, Goochland, Powhatan, New Kent, and Richmond, plus Dr. Beth Teigen representing the Superintendent’s Steering Committee.
In May, the executive board will be presented with consent items that include the school’s monthly personnel and financial reports. They will be asked to approve with a first-read waiver requested, a one-time waiver to policies 6010 and 6010.1 regarding the use of facilities.
The Mech Tech Dragons are invited to be recognized for their work this year, both within and outside the school community, and for their outstanding competitive year in FIRST Robotics. The board has also invited three students to be recognized for their years-long work with the Library of Virginia, providing transcription services, and lastly, the National Scholastic winners in the arts and writing will also be highlighted.
Under the review section of the agenda, the board will be asked to prepare for the FY2025 Assignment of Reserve Funds as required under GASB 54, which establishes fund balance classifications and provides a hierarchy of spending constraints. Final reserve fund balance totals will not be available until the board’s June meeting. Also, the board will be asked to consider the renewal of the school’s business insurance coverages and will be advised under first-read of an RFP for the installation of a security partition in the lobby of the school.
