The Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School Regional Board meeting will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 9:00 am. Location: Room 153 (Adjunct Classroom).
The board will begin this meeting by honoring Ms. Linda Hyslop of Hopewell, who dedicated nearly ten years of service to our community. Linda made a lasting impact in education, bringing wisdom and kindness to her role, and we are grateful for her representation on the Maggie Walker GS Regional School Board.
During the meeting, the board will elect officers and appoint committee members for 2026. They will also approve their code of conduct and their meeting schedule, current operating financial statements, and personnel actions. Additionally, new travel proposals will be presented for approval.
The board will consider a first-reading item regarding the proposed school operating calendar for 2026-2027.
In the executive director’s report, presented by Kristin Janssen, the board will review a variety of items, including a tribute to Mrs. Pat Taylor, a legendary former administrator who served the school from its inception until June 2010. Additionally, representatives from the Model UN Club will make a presentation on the upcoming GSMUN XXVIII Conference, scheduled for February 20-21, 2026.
Before concluding regular business, the board will enter a closed session. Following that, the board will hold a work session where the executive director will present preliminary information regarding the operating budget for FY27 and a draft of the new strategic plan proposal.
