The next meeting of the full Regional School Board of Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 9:00 am. The meeting is on the MLWGS campus in Room 153.
During the meeting, the board will be introduced to Dr. Katina Otey, the newly appointed Superintendent of Charles City Public Schools, and Dr. William Sroufe, Hanover School Board.
The board will recognize MLWGS teacher, Sharon Meng, a 2025 Yale Educator Award Recipient. In addition, a special dedication will happen as Mrs. Tracy Lowerre will be presented with a replica plaque of the Robert C. Lowerre Award for Leadership in Advanced Learning, the last Director of Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School.
Action items for this meeting include reviewing current financial reports, personnel changes, new and various updated policies, an international trip proposal to Iceland and Denmark in 2026, approval of the food service vendor that was tabled in August, and the 2025-26 Student Handbook that was also tabled in August.
The board will also review additional policy proposals, including one to update the concussion policy and new cell phone policy, and regulations. Proposals for a new international student trip to Argentina in 2027 and one to England in 2026 will be presented. Finally, the board will be advised of their annual self-evaluation to be completed before their October meeting.
