“Emily and Zara are both Senior jumpers in the Lady Green Dragons Track & Field Program, in their 2nd and 4th years respectively. We have chosen to highlight these two outstanding young women this week, not only for their current leadership and athletic excellence during the early Outdoor Track season, but because they both came away from the Group 3 Indoor State Championships with historic performances too special to separate,” said Coach Ryan Webb.

On Day 1 of the Indoor Championship, Zara was the Group 3 State Runner-Up in the Girls High Jump, the highest finish ever by a Green Dragon in the event. Additionally, her clearance of 5’2″ is her own personal best and the 2nd best jump in the history of the program. She scored the first points of the meet for the Lady Dragons and was a catalyst for the team’s state Runner Up finish.

On Day 2 of the Indoor Championships, Emily took to the runway in her marquee event, the Triple Jump. On a day that most of the field struggled to jump anywhere close to their normal distances, Emily put on a masterclass of the event, finishing as the Group 3 Champion. Each of her 6 attempts were better than the best jumps from all but two of her competitors, and her 36′ 11.75″ best was more than a full foot better than 2nd place. Emily is the first girl to win a state title in a field event since we moved up to Group 3. Mirroring Zara, Emily’s winning jump was the 2nd best performance in the event ever by a Green Dragon.

Coach Webb expressed his gratitude, stating “a coach is fortunate to have the opportunity to work with athletes as talented as Zara and Emily at least once in their career. Having both of them on the team simultaneously is just one of the reasons why this group of girls is so exceptional. Despite excelling in the jumping events, they are even better teammates and leaders, and their impact on the team goes far beyond their individual specialties.”

We send our gratitude to Patient First for supporting Walker Athletics!
