MLWGS teacher named 2022-23 Virginia Girls Tennis Coach of the Year

We are thrilled to inform our community that Maggie Walker’s own Hillary Gawne, Science Department, has been chosen as the 2022-23 Virginia Girls Tennis Coach of the Year by the NFHS Coaches Association. Hillary was nominated by the Virginia High School League for this prestigious honor. The selection committee evaluated her coaching performance in the 2022-23 school year, as well as her lifetime contributions to the community and school, and her coaching philosophy. The NFHS Coaches Association recognizes coaches who excel in their sport, inspire their athletes, and have a positive impact on their community. The NFHS is proud to acknowledge Hillary Gawne as one of these coaches.

“Please join me in congratulating our own Hillary Gawne who was selected as the NFHS Girls Tennis Coach of the Year for Virginia,” said director Bob Lowerre.  “The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) is the governing body when it comes to rules for high school athletics.  They are a very big deal and this award covers all six classes of athletics in Virginia, so to say Hillary is the best is no exaggeration!”

Congratulations on being selected as the Virginia Coach of the Year!
