This has been a year of initiatives and outreach, and we just wanted to share some news about our first go at Dare to Be a Dragon Day for fifth graders. As I was walking up the stairs with some of our little visitors, I asked them what they thought. “This is awesome! Yeah, this is so cool!” they exclaimed in unison.
To pull this off, Dr. Max Smith spent many hours building the logistics, anticipating that we might have to navigate around the Monument Ave 10K Marathon. Despite a few delays, we managed to power through by making minor adjustments to our schedule. Among a few other logistics, we will heavily consider the date for next year’s event. 😊
A special shout-out to the teachers and student leaders who volunteered their time for 7 amazing sessions, and also fun activities, like face-painting and balloon animals, during the break. Dr. Smith and I visited each workshop, and what we witnessed only affirms what the fifth graders said: We’re pretty amazing!
Kudos to Kara Love, Lindsey LeCroy, Ed Coleman, Sharon Meng, Amanda Lemco, Rana Khashroom, Kristen Macklin, Delanie Utterback, Amy Maxey, and Ryan Webb for organizing kid-friendly, engaging workshops that were still super-challenging.
