We have officially welcomed the Class of 2028 to Maggie Walker. If you were here, you may have noticed our groups rotating around the building yesterday, completing activities on Courage, Compassion, Collaboration, and Community. Our endeavors were supported by a host of upperclassmen who have volunteered to serve as mentors to the freshmen this year. All in all, the day went smoothly, and I hope the students enjoyed themselves and feel a smidgen less anxious about starting high school.
Thanks to all of our Dragon Advisory faculty advisors, who broke the ice in a morning session: Patrick, Dickson, Heather, Connie, Kerry, Kara, Amanda, Pete, Matthew, Alecia, Paige, and Adam.
Thanks also to Guidance – Joy, Kim, Kelly, and Rachel – for jumping in and registering kids as they came. Kelly also led one of our Walker Way sessions, on Compassion, and printed nametags for all our students. When you’re in the Freshman Commons, you’ll see some additions to our mural, thanks to a Collaboration project led by Aparna. Rachel has been invaluable in coordinating today with Tuesday’s Freshman Orientation schedule.
Walker Way Welcome Day was Lisa William’s brainchild years ago, and none of this could have happened without her and without her assistance this year. I’m really proud of the direction WWWD is taking on, and it all started with her. We are heading in a good direction with our newest students, and I have high hopes for this class and this year. I appreciate all who are helping me shepherd this group through such an important time in their lives.
