Four Maggie Walker High School alumni (Glenroy Bailey, Deborah Washington Roane, Rudolph Davis, Sr., Howard Hopkins) participated in a panel discussion with our students on February 24th. The alumni graduated or taught at MWHS between 1965-1975. Their experiences ranged from MWHS as an all African-American school through the period of court-ordered integration in 1970 through cross-town bussing. They related stories of pride associated with the Armstrong-Walker Classic, stories of inequity stemming from the lack of resources and materials in a segregated school, and stories of camaraderie through music and sports. Over 150 students were in attendance and also many faculty members.
The event was organized by Dr. Lisa Williams and Joy Davis.
