Quiz Bowl National Tournament Qualifier

On Saturday, October 21, three Maggie Walker Quiz Bowl teams entered the Blacksburg High School Academic Invitational tournament. The field consisted of 24 teams from schools across Virginia, and the top four teams would qualify for the High School National Championship Tournament (HSNCT) in Atlanta, GA and the PACE National Scholastic Championship (NSC) in Reston, VA. Of the 24 teams, the three Maggie Walker teams placed 1st, 3rd, and 4th in the tournament, allowing all three of our teams to qualify for both national championship tournaments! Congratulations to all the following students:

1st place team:  Timothy Porter-’24, Henrico (captain), Eric Hu-’24, Henrico, Amanda Campbell-’25, Hanover, and Brenden Stremler-’25-Chesterfield.

3rd place team:  Sam McNamee-’24, Chesterfield (captain), Liam Reed-’24, Chesterfield, Devesh Kumar-’24, Henrico, and Michael Klausner-’25, Chesterfield.

4th place team:  Risshi Naavaal-’24, Henrico (captain), Yash Saxena-’24, Henrico, Nate Stewart-’24, Henrico, and Bharathi Kancharla-’24, Henrico.

Additionally, Timothy Porter and Sam McNamee received individual awards for being the first and second highest scoring individuals in the tournament.

Congratulations to their coaches Adam Rotche and Drew Austen.
