Parental involvement and volunteerism in Maggie Walker are one of our longest-standing traditions. Parent volunteers are in the halls, the school offices, the classrooms, and at every major school event. This year’s PTSA President is Craig Martin.
Some of the events sponsored by our PTSA include the yearly Fall Festival, faculty and staff appreciation meals, and welcoming events for new parents. The PTSA also supports the community by maintaining the Dragon’s Lair Student Store, and by publishing the student directory and the weekly email newsletter, Smoke & Scales. Our PTSA Advocacy Committee keeps the school connected to our participating school divisions, as well as elected officials.
The PTSA SCRIP Program allows community members to purchase gift cards to stores and restaurants at no additional cost to them with a percentage of each sale going to the PTSA. Our brand new Great Lake Scrip fundraiser is the ‘No Extra Cost for You’ fundraiser. Scrip is fundraising while you shop. You buy cards from over 750 retailer brands you ALREADY shop and earn a rebate on every gift card you purchase at face value. The rebate goes directly to MLWGS. Let those retailers give money to our school, you’re buying the product anyway!
For a full list of retailers, to enroll, and to shop, go to www.shopwithscrip.com. Order due dates for 2019/2020 are October 4, November 8, December 6, March 6 and May 8 by noon. You can still use paper order forms (available below) and checks made out to MLWGS PTSA with Scrip in the memo. These must be delivered to Room 100 PTSA Box by noon on the due date. It’s easy and fast to order online. You can pay by check, credit card or Presto Pay (like Pay Pal). You can also receive digital e-cards on your computer or phone if the retailer participates in Scrip Now or Reload. You can order these with Presto Pay or credit card and receive them instantly on your phone or computer any time convenient to you.

Parent Booster Groups combine volunteerism with fundraising to support specific areas of interest in the school. In addition to assisting coaches, teachers, and activity sponsors with organizational and logistical tasks, the Booster Groups partner with the PTSA and the Governor’s School Foundation in the yearly Night of the Dragon fundraising auction.
