Parental involvement and volunteerism in Maggie Walker are one of our longest-standing traditions. Parent volunteers are in the halls, the school offices, the classrooms, and at every major school event. This year’s PTSA President is Beth Simms.
Some of the events sponsored by our PTSA include the yearly Fall Festival, faculty and staff appreciation meals, and welcoming events for new parents. The PTSA also supports the community by maintaining the Dragon’s Lair Student Store, and by publishing the student directory and the weekly email newsletter, Smoke & Scales. Our PTSA Advocacy Committee keeps the school connected to our participating school divisions, as well as elected officials.
Great Lake Scrip Program, the cost-you-nothing extra fundraiser!
In 2020/2021 we raised over $2000, help us raise at least $2500 this upcoming year. Simply do some of your everyday shopping with gift cards or e-certificates and Great Lake Scrip gives a percentage back to the MLWGS PTSA.
Order due dates for 2021/2022 for plastic cards will be on the following Fridays: 9/24, 10/22, 11/12, 12/3, 12/10, 1/21, 2/18, 3/18, 4/22, 5/20, and 6/10. Cards will be available for pick up the following week at school. If you choose to pay by check, please make out to MLWGS PTSA with Scrip in the memo and deliver to Room 100 (Valenta William’s office) the morning of the due date. Parent Booster Groups combine volunteerism with fundraising to support specific areas of interest in the school. In addition to assisting coaches, teachers, and activity sponsors with organizational and logistical tasks, the Booster Groups partner with the PTSA and the Governor’s School Foundation in the yearly Night of the Dragon fundraising auction.
