Dr. Lisa Williams and Ms. Lisa Ebeling have worked together all year on our Walker Way Forum speakers.  They were very pleased with our first three forum presenters and are excited about our final one.

We hope that you will be able to attend and that you can encourage your students to come to hear this amazing speaker.

Chef Hamidullah Noori – 5/18

Chef Noori owns and operates the Afghan restaurant, Mantu, located in Carytown, which opened in 2019.  He began his career as a chef at the age of 18 in Kabul, Afghanistan and worked in a variety of respected culinary institutions in Afghanistan.  At the age of 36, he escaped with his wife and children from war-torn Afghanistan to come the US.  Chef Noori works actively to support other refugees who have escaped Afghanistan after the US military withdrew troops in August 2021.  Cher Noori’s father was killed in a suicide bombing when he was a child growing up in Afghanistan and food was scarce for him and his siblings.  His childhood experience with hunger and poverty informs his support of others today.  Chef Noor notes, “It’s not possible to close your eyes, to pretend that you didn’t see anything.  My family is still there.  Each and every Afghan’s and human being’s life matters.  We are human beings, and we should feel the pain of others.”  Chef Noori will be speaking to the Walker Way pillar of courage defined as follows:  demonstrating fortitude, persistence, and integrity when confronting challenges.
