2026 Richmond Visionaries of the Year

Blood Cancer Cure

Maggie Walker’s Shravan Madurantakam (’27-Henrico) and Prithvi Chakraborty (’27-Henrico) did an outstanding job in the 2026 Richmond Visionaries of the Year leadership fundraising campaign. This campaign is supported by Blood Cancer United, which was formerly known as the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS). Their team, “Light the CUREiosity,” raised approximately $45,000 for Blood Cancer United during the seven-week Student Visionaries of the Year leadership campaign. The grand finale was a wonderful celebration and served as an opportunity to honor Dr. Robert Lowerre, the former director of MLWGS, in a meaningful way.

Student Visionaries of the Year is a philanthropic leadership development program through which highly motivated, high-school leaders embark on a journey of professional growth, fostering professional skills in entrepreneurship, marketing, and project management, all while working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission.

Dr. Lowerre was their motivation to take on this initiative as their way to honor him. The fundraising campaign ended with a gala celebration on Saturday, March 28th.

To quote Mrs. Lowerre, “What an amazing tribute to him. Thank you so much for honoring his life in this way.”
