July Update from Mil-wigs

Soon we will begin our August ritual of mailings that begin to get everyone focused on the opening of another great school year.  Before that happens, we thought it to be a good idea to give everyone a brief account of the month of July @ MLWGS.

In addition to some down time and individual professional education pursuits, a group of teacher and staff leaders attended a national conference directed toward the theme of Excellence through Equity; that is, providing access to high standards for every student.  As we pursue the goals outlined in our strategic plan, support for each student will continue to be a priority for all of us.

In order to maintain the historic look of our building, the windows on the Lombardy Street side are “old school” style.  As such they need to be scrapped, glazed, primed, and painted every few years to maintain their integrity.  We think you’ll notice the fresh look when September rolls around.

Our energy savings project is also underway and we have had LED lighting installed in many areas of our building.  Not only does this reduce energy consumption, but it also provides an even application of lighting.  In addition, a new building automation system and improvement measures for water consumption have been installed.  In the September time frame, we hope to have our wind turbine and solar array up and running.

Our wonderful custodial staff has been busy as well cleaning in both hard and easy to reach spaces.  We experienced a water leak on the third floor as well that required some extra attention.

We wish we could include a picture of stacks of new text books, but they have not come in yet!

We hope you and your family have had a healthy, happy, and productive month as well.
