Budget Town Hall Follow-up

2015-05-04 12.41.21

We hosted a very productive Town Hall style meeting to capture input on our FY17 budget.  As you already know, our community remains hopeful that the Governor’s FY17-18 Biennial Budget will include an appropriation for all Governor’s Schools as proposed by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).

Our town hall included 7 speakers, three of whom were students!  Themes can be generally summarized as follows:

  1. Direct resources toward priorities as identified in the school’s strategic plan.
  2. Reduce pupil teacher ratio (PTR).
  3. Regular refresh of instructional materials.
  4. Increase funding for co- and extra-curricular activities (including athletics and graduation ceremony).
  5. Maintenance of facilities (including athletic complex).
  6. Advance technological infrastructure to support blended learning.

Near term activity associated with the development of our budget is below.

  • December 2, 2015:  Budget Town Hall
  • December 8, 2015:  Legislative Coffee at MLWGS (7-8:45am) Hosted by PTSA and EduPac

  • January 13-March 16, 2016: General Assembly (60 days)
  • January 21, 2016: MLWGS Budget Work Session
  • February 8, 2016: Capital Day
  • February 18, 2016: Present Proposed Budget to MLWGS School Board

Thank you for your support of our awesome students and staff!
