Commencement 2016

There are only 59 more school days until graduation!  As we continue our march toward June 17, please permit me to provide an update on graduation regalia.

As you know, we engaged in a review of our regalia practice.  As seniors and their parents were advised earlier this week, the outcome of the review is as follows:

  1. Students may wear cords earned as part of their membership in our Honor Societies (as has been our custom).
  2. Students may wear one piece of additional approved* regalia which they have earned as a member of an enduring MLWGS organization.  This achievement may have occurred during any year of the student’s tenure at MLWGS.

*A committee of student, parent, teacher, and administrative representatives will vet the enduring organization’s proposal for additional regalia.

We believe that this solution respects the deep roots associated with honor society membership, while also providing opportunities for new personalized growth associated with the breadth of our students’ involvement/engagement.

The support and advocacy of our community around this issue is deeply appreciated.  Such engagement is indeed emblematic of our impassioned community.  Because of it, we were able to reach a balanced solution.
