Good day parents. I am writing to update you with several pieces of information this week.
First, in a prior update I referenced a visit by a delegation of officials from Mali. After conferring with the Virginia Department of Health and because the virus is dynamic, we have decided to forego the Malian visit.
Second, we have placed an addendum to our 2014-2015 PTSA Student Directory on itslearning. Only the students for whom information changed are included in the addendum.
Also, on Wednesday, 15 October we will host our homecoming field hockey contest against Deep Run High School. In support of this event, any attendee who presents an admission ticket and who is wearing MLWGS gear (or TJ Viking Gear from our time in the TJ facility) will receive their choice of a free hamburger, veggie burger, or hot dog. Serving will begin at 5:15pm and be ongoing as long as supplies last. Our concessions will also be open where you can purchase chips, drinks, etc. Special thanks to the MLWGS grilling team of Mr. Charles and Mr. Tharp as well as the tireless support of our athletic boosters!
Finally, we recently engaged our school security head (Mr. Charles) as well as the RPS school security chief regarding our Lombardy Street entrance. Because this entrance is a “blind entrance” (meaning that it is not line-of-sight observable) and because best security practice does not call for multiple entry points, on school days please anticipate Lombardy Street not being an entrance after 9am in the near future. This means that there will not be a provision to be buzzed in via Lombardy after 9am on school days. People, including visitors, post office personnel, staff, etc. who request entry through the Lombardy Street Entrance will be directed to the main entrance at the Blue Stone (parking will continue to be an option in the Lombardy Street Horse Shoe parking lot if available). We will necessarily make entry monitoring accommodations during special meeting periods and school events (i.e., drama productions, parent conferences) so that visitors and others can use the Lombardy entrance. Please know that there have been no security breaches, rather this measure is proactive in nature. The implementation of this measure is still several days out…as we are preparing signage and want to ensure that all are well informed. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
Weather permitting, I’ll see you at fall fest! Jeff
