VSBA School Law Conference Keeps Local School Board Members & Administrators Current
Many decisions school board members make have legal implications that will impact schools for years to come. The Virginia School Boards Association’s 2019 School Law Conference, held on June 7th in Richmond, offered legal guidance on several important topics. School board members, superintendents, administrators, and legal counsel from across the Commonwealth attended the conference, including Dr. Robert Lowerre from Maggie L. Walker Governors School.
Attendees also had the opportunity to hear from National Teacher of the Year Rodney Robinson from Richmond City Public Schools who was selected as the Virginia Teacher of the Year and went on to earn the National Teacher of the Year recognition.
“Educational legal issues are complicated and ever-changing. The VSBA School Law Conference is a wonderful opportunity for school board members and administrators to learn about various legal matters so we can ensure that we are making the best possible decisions for our school and communities,” said Sarah Barber, regional school board chair.
Attendees heard from experts on several topics, including School Safety and Special Education, The Legal Authority and Role of the School Board, a national school law update, and an update on the 2019 General Assembly session.
