The Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School for Government and International Studies (MLWGS) is an innovative public high school offering a comprehensive college preparatory program emphasizing government, international studies, science, mathematics, languages, and fine arts. The school serves students selected based on aptitude and interest in its mission.
MLWGS will present an information forum for students and families interested in knowing more about the program and the admissions process on the school campus on Saturday, October 26th. There will be three 90-minute sessions divided by district. The sessions are as follows: 8 AM–Hanover and Richmond, 10 AM–Colonial Heights, Dinwiddie, Henrico, Hopewell, King & Queen, Petersburg, and Prince George, and 1 PM–Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, New Kent, and Powhatan.
Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School is located in the heart of Richmond and offers exceptional educational opportunities and personalized learning. The school received a prestigious honor in 2023 by being named to the College Board’s Advanced Placement Honor Roll with Platinum Distinction School and again renamed in 2024.
With our last graduation, 196 members of the class of 2025 earned over $12.57 million in scholarship offers and had a 98% college acceptance rate. Two were Presidential Scholar candidates; one of them was also named a Presidential Scholar Semifinalist. They went to 69 different colleges, 124 stayed in-state, 67 went out-of-state, and one attended college outside the United States. One was awarded an Air Force/Space Force ROTC Scholarship, and one awarded an Army ROTC Scholarship. Eight students were National Merit Scholarship Finalists, and the class earned an average GPA of 4.191.
