MLWGS Chess Club places 4th at State in under 1400 section

Congratulations to our team from the Maggie Walker Chess Club for taking 4th place in the Under 1400 Section at the State Championship of the US Chess Federation held at Thomas Jefferson High School in Fairfax, Virginia, March 7-8.  Six club members participated left to right, Joshua Whitchurch (’20-Prince George), Cora Lewis (’20-Richmond), John Corson (’20-Chesterfield), Kapil Iyer (’21-Henrico), and Adriel Barretto (’21-Henrico). One team member is not pictured, Varun Natarajan (’20-Henrico).  

Notable performances by Cora Lewis, who won top under 800 player and Adriel Barretto, who won 3rd place overall in their sections.

The team is sponsored by Ms. Heather Kemmerly.
