The Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School Executive Board meeting will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at 9:00 am. Location: MLWGS, Room 153.
The executive board consists of representatives from Powhatan, New Kent, Petersburg, Goochland, and Richmond.
At this meeting, the board will recognize an MW sophomore for winning a prestigious international summer travel award, and national medal winners in the 2026 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
The board will perform several duties, including reviewing the current financial reports and personnel changes. Important tasks to be completed include the annual authorization for the executive director to issue personnel contracts for AY2027, Science textbook adoption, and vendor approval on the RFP for photography services next year.
The coordinator of mentorship and seminars will be present to discuss the May 20th senior showcase, which features senior work and research experiences. Additionally, the board will review the Social Studies Department’s textbook selection for the upcoming year and discuss the receipt of a bonus revenue payment from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) for staff bonuses in FY2026. This additional revenue requires an amendment to the operating budget.
