The Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School Executive Board meeting will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 9:00 am. Location: MLWGS, Room 153.
The board is pleased to welcome the Dragons back for the 2026-2027 academic year and wishes them great success in their studies and activities.
During this meeting, the board has several important responsibilities, including the review of the current financial reports and personnel changes.
Important votes to be completed include approval of the VDOE authorization of signatures for MLWGS, certifying the school’s crisis manual, and the 2026-2027 student handbook. Additionally, the board will elect a new Deputy Board Clerk.
The board will also be asked to review the executive director’s recommendation on health and dental benefits along with an amended operating budget for FY27 with additional funding allotted by the Virginia State Assembly at the end of June. Lastly, the board will review their votes cast in an emergency online request to approve a food service vendor for the current academic year.
During the first reading section of the agenda, the board will review several policy updates, including new policies on the use of AI for staff and students, along with two international travel proposals for 2027: one is an exchange with German students by Ms. Macklin, and the other is Mr. Brown’s military history European travel. Lastly, the board will be presented with candidates to consider representing the school as its HQIM liaisons for textbook selection and adoption (this is a new action).
