School Board Group 2024

The Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School Executive Board meeting will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 9:00 am.  Location: Room 153 (Adjunct Classroom).  The Executive Board comprises members from Petersburg, Goochland, Dinwiddie, King and Queen, Hanover,  and Dr. Brian Nichols representing the Superintendent’s Steering Committee.

In June the executive board will be presented with consent items including the school’s monthly personnel and financial reports. They will also be asked to approve the Fiscal Year 2024 Assignment of Reserve Funds as required by GASB 54 from the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, and the renewal of school business insurance with VACorp.

The board will also receive year-end reports, including the AY24 Field Trip Report, the AY24 Wellness Report, the AY25 GS Foundation Enhancement Report, and the School Advisory Committee’s year-end AY24 report.

During the review section of the agenda, the board will be asked to prepare for the August approval of standard actions. These include the annual authorization of signatures for VDOE, certification of the 24-25 Crisis Manual, the 24-25 Student Handbook, and renewal of health and dental rates. Additionally, a new request for a domestic student trip to Tulsa and Oklahoma City in March 2025 will be included for review.

Persons unable to attend in person but wanting to address the Executive School Board during the public comment period are invited to use this form to submit their comments by 4:00 pm, Tuesday, June 18, 2024, (MLWGS is closed for the holiday on June 19th) or email their remarks to the Board Clerk.
