MLWGS Executive School Board Meeting on Thursday, May 16, 2024 @ 9:00 am

The Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School Executive Board meeting will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at 9:00 am.  Location: Room 153 (Adjunct Classroom).  The Executive Board is comprised of members from Petersburg, Goochland, Dinwiddie, King and Queen, and Hanover plus Dr. Brian Nichols representing the Superintendent’s Steering Committee.

In May the executive board will be presented with consent items that include the school’s monthly personnel and financial reports. They will be asked to approve the GS Foundation 2024-25 slate of officers as required by policy, and an international exchange with students in Germany during 2025 as requested by Ms. Kristen Macklin.

The Mech Tech Dragons are invited for recognition of their work resulting in the commission of a Joint Resolution Designating March 31 each year as FIRST Robotics Day in VA. The board has also invited two seniors regarding their work as school change-agents by creating Bonsai Balance Seminars that will be fully implemented for freshmen next year, and Jeff Hall, Fine Arts Department Chair, for an update on his showing in America’s Favorite Teacher contest.

Under the review section of the agenda, the board will be asked to prepare for the FY2024 Assignment of Reserve Funds as required under GASB 54 which establishes fund balance classifications
and provides a hierarchy of spending constraints. Final reserve fund balance totals will not be available until the board’s June meeting. Also, the board will be asked to consider the renewal of the school’s business insurance coverages.

The May meeting packet can be viewed here.

Persons unable to attend in person but wanting to address the Executive School Board during the public comment period are invited to use this form to submit their comments by 10:00 am, Wednesday, May 15, 2024, or email their remarks to the Board Clerk.
