MLWGS Latin students win the Gamma Division of the 93rd Annual Latin Tournament

Veni, vidi, vici!

Please join us in congratulating Latin teacher Steve Ross and his students for a triumphant performance in the Classical Association of Virginia’s 93rd annual Latin Tournament.

In Beginning Latin, Sriram Panchagnula (’26-Henrico) won first place, and Everett McCoy (’26-Henrico) took third, with Nathaniel Stubblefield (’26-Richmond) and Deepanshi Kumar (’26-Henrico) winning Honorable Mention recognition.

In Intermediate Latin, Maggie Walker finished 1-2-3, as Arnav Kadambi (’25-Henrico) finished in first place, with Michael Klausner (’25-Chesterfield) in second and Abigail Barnett (’26-Henrico) in third, while Mercedes Luna (’25-Chesterfield), Aarav Lodha (’25-Henrico), and Katherine Watson (’25-Chesterfield) earned Honorable Mention plaudits.

In Advanced Latin, Nitya Goyal (’24-Henrico) outpaced all competitors, and Ethan Choe (’24-Goochland) was the runner-up.

In Latin Literature, Michael Taylor III (’25-Chesterfield) emerged triumphant, with Samantha Schappert (’25-Chesterfield) securing Honorable Mention commendation.

In Advanced Latin Poetry, Brenden Stremler (’25-Chesterfield) came in second, with Declan Wise (’24-Henrico) achieving Honorable Mention status.

Arnav Kadambi and Michael Taylor III led all competitors across all divisions, as each scored a stellar 58 on his test. That doesn’t sound to the uninitiated like it’s a good number, but, because it’s not out of 100, it’s a very good number.

Overall, Mr. Ross’s pupils emerged as the champions of the Gamma Division, outperforming their rivals from TJ Sci-Tech, in Fairfax, among others.

Mr. Ross has directed our rigorous and enriching Latin program for 25 years, and his students have consistently shone bright in competition. This year is no exception. Kudos to Mr. Ross and his students!
