The next meeting of the Regional School Board of Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 9:00 am. The meeting will be held on the MLWGS campus in Room 153.
During the meeting, the board will be introduced to Mr. John Griffin III, the newly appointed representative of the Hopewell School Board. They will also present the first-ever Green Dragon Award to a junior at MLWGS.
The board has several important responsibilities to address, including reviewing the current financial reports and personnel changes. Significant votes to be completed involve updates to policies and regulations from the spring and summer of 2026 with guidance from the VSBA, as well as action on an international exchange in 2027 and a proposed European student trip in 2027. Additionally, the board will hear a recommendation from the executive director regarding employee benefit changes that are necessary due to market conditions, and then they will be asked to approve the changes.
During Section XIII of the agenda, the board will start its annual self-review process, with feedback results anticipated for the October meeting. Next, they will review the schools’ Administrative Procedures Manual. Finally, the board will discuss how future regulations will be presented.
Board information items included in this meeting are an MOU between MLWGS and VCU for educational services, the School Advisory Committee (SAC) membership for this year, a list of the 18 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, and an update from Wendy DeGroat on Un/Bound, and an exhibit from the Virginia Museum of History and Culture.
After the superintendent’s verbal report, the board will go into closed session to discuss a personnel matter, Case # 2026-0001.
