The Daily Beast ranked the Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School for Government and International Studies as the 12th best public high school in the nation.
“This prestigious recognition is shared by our exemplary students, families, staff, and partnering school divisions who combine to make Maggie L. Walker a shining example of regional cooperation in public education,” said Director Jeff McGee. “We are proud to be listed among these other great public schools.”
According to The Daily Beast, six indicators were culled from school surveys to compare public high schools in the U.S., with graduation and college acceptance rates weighed most heavily. Other criteria included: college-level courses and exams, percentage of students with free or reduced lunch, as well as SAT and ACT scores – another mark of how well a school prepares students for college.
