The MLWGS National Honor Society Induction Ceremony is on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 6:30 pm, in the auditorium, hosted by Dr. Rachel Loving and Ms. Camille Tucker, co-sponsors.

The National Honor Society (NHS) is a national organization for high school students that seeks to honor students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. This year, approximately 125 Maggie Walker juniors and seniors will be inducted into The Patricia E. Taylor Pioneers of Excellence Chapter of NHS. The National NHS Council requires that induction ceremonies be appropriate and impressive.

Eligible members are Maggie Walker juniors and seniors with at least a 3.5 weighted, cumulative, unrounded GPA who have earned the required number of service hours and have abided by the MLWGS standards of honor.

Approximately two-thirds of the inductees had pre-applied last spring to be eligible to serve as Dragon Advisory Mentors to our freshmen. The rest of the inductees meeting the criteria completed an application in September, in which they discussed their experience with or aspirations for leadership and completed an essay on service.

The induction ceremony itself will include a keynote address, a candle-lighting ceremony, a presentation of certificates, and a statement of the NHS Pledge. A reception will follow in the Student Commons.
