MLWGS Quiz Bowl Results from VCU’s Winter Tournament

This past Saturday, the quiz bowl team braved the melty snow and the parade traffic to participate in VCU’s annual winter tournament.  Our goal was to qualify both our A and B teams for the national championship in Atlanta over Memorial Day weekend.  To do this, both teams would need to place in the top 6 out of a 36-team field!

We also fielded two teams in the JV division, including some students who have never competed before.

I am happy to report that our A team (Bladen Kidd, Rohan Neelakantan, Bridget Finley, David Chen) placed 3rd, and our B team (David Lins, Serine Oh, Skanda Azhagappan, Jaanvi Kanda) placed 5th!  Both teams have qualified for Nationals!

In the JV division, our C and D teams also played really well.  Our C team (Collette Kim, Aditya Singhal, Aarav Saxena, Kennedy Greene, Reagan Shell, Eleanor Chin) placed 10th, and our D team (Rohan Rajguru, Sage Smith, David Yeager, Thomas Cyrus, Urvika Bansal) placed 12th.

In the JV division, we had three individual players earn book awards for their high scores.  Collette Kim was the 3rd highest scoring individual player in the whole division, and Rohan Rajguru and  Sage  Smith were also in the top 10.

In the National division, Rohan Neelakantan, David Lins, and Bladen Kidd were all honored with book awards for being in the top 10.

Please congratulate these students when you get a chance!
