The Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School Regional Board (RSB) elected Kenneth Pritchett, representing the Petersburg School Board, as chair for 2023 at its January 19 meeting. Kenneth Pritchett has held RSB membership since 2007. During his tenure, he served on the committee that developed the school’s strategic plan and the committee responsible for hiring school directors.  Pritchett previously served as the RSB chair in 2012 and 2013 and recently as vice-chair in 2021 and 2022.

“I appreciated our 14-member board having confidence in electing me as their next Chair of the Regional School Board,” said Pritchett. “As a Regional Board, we will continue to support the three goals of Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School (1) create a welcoming and responsive environment that celebrates and reflects the diversity of the school districts we serve and fosters a sense of belonging for all. (2) engage students with innovative curricula and responsive instruction that focuses on student-centered experiential learning. Instruction will be interdisciplinary and enriched by local and global connectedness. (3) a safe school with effective management of resources.”

Ms. Harwood Hall of King & Queen was elected as board Vice-Chair.

The Superintendent’s Steering Committee for 2023 will be chaired by Dr. Brian Nichols of New Kent.

In addition to the chair and vice-chair, the board will be comprised of the following members from their participating divisions: Martha Harris from Charles City, Debbie Bailey from Chesterfield, Steven Neece from Colonial Heights, Mary Benjamin from Dinwiddie, John Wright from Goochland, Bob May from Hanover, Micky Ogburn from Henrico, Linda Hyslop from Hopewell,  Sarah Barber from New Kent, Valarie Ayers from Powhatan, and Mariah White from Richmond.

Other items for discussion or action at the board’s January meeting included the code of conduct for the board and clerks, board committee memberships, and adoption of new policy regarding explicit instructional materials.

Executive Board members for 2023 remain unchanged and consist of Ogburn, Wright, Pritchett, Hall, and Barber.
