Boys Indoor Track & Field- Ashton Kochel, ’27 Richmond

Ashton Kochel (‘27 Richmond) has been making impacts on the Cross Country and Track & Field teams since he first joined during his freshman year. He was a member of the boys Group 3 State Championship team in that first year, and in his sophomore Outdoor track season, he earned his first individual All-State Award in the 3200m run.

“Ashton’s junior year has again been defined by excellence both on and off the track, said coach Ryan Webb.” This winter, Ashton’s Indoor track season has been particularly outstanding. As assistant track coaches William Ryba and Nick Tuck have put it, “Ashton’s attention to detail and dedication to improvement are showing themselves in his continued improvement, brilliant race tactics, and outstanding results.”

Ashton has qualified to the Group 3 state championships in all three distance races, and picked up his first individual major invitational victory this season when he won the Walt Cormack 1000m run in a personal best time of 2:38. Ashton looks to add a few junior class records and his first Indoor Track State medal in just a few weeks at the Group 3 State Meet.
