Girls Indoor Track & Field- Ivey Shields

“Coming off of the best Cross Country season of her career, senior Ivey Shields (‘26 Richmond) had very high goals for her final Indoor Track season as a dragon, but with a month to go until the Group 3 State meet, Ivey has already far surpassed all of those goals and now has her eyes set on racing for her first individual All-State awards,” said her coach Ryan Webb.

Entering the season known primarily for her talents in the middle distance events, Ivey has shown a newfound competitive range that puts her squarely in contention for state medals in multiple distance events. At times, this winter, Ivey has surprised even herself with her outstanding race tactics that have led to huge lifetime best times. Ivey is the first Lady Green Dragon, and one of only 8 girls this season who have automatically qualified to the VHSL Group 3 State Championships.

As the Indoor Track season winds its way towards championship season, Ivey’s fearless racing will give her the chance at one of the more successful distance campaigns in the last 5 years. Besides her own competitive performances, Ivey has shown her incredible leadership ability day in and day out. She does all the little things to get better and helps those around her do those little things as well. At meets, she is a positive, supportive force to her teammates regardless of their age, their experience, or their training group.
