MLWGS Student Wins The Allstate Foundation/VHSL Achievement Award

Congratulations  Mark Fleckenstein, Group 2A Male Athlete of the Year

Nineteen high school seniors representing all parts of the state were selected to receive the 2014 The Allstate Foundation/VHSL Achievement Award, the highest honor given by the Virginia High School League, to students who have excelled in the classroom and in athletic activities.

A committee of high school athletic directors and media members selected 19 state winners for the $1,500 scholarship from a pool of over 300 students.

The Allstate Foundation/VHSL Achievement Awards have been presented since 1992 to the outstanding male athlete, female athlete and academic activities participant in Groups 1A through 6A. One student is also recognized with the Andrew Mullins Courageous Achievement Award, which honors courageous achievement in overcoming exceptional circumstances to find success in VHSL activities.

Students must have earned a minimum 3.0 grade point average and have made significant contributions to VHSL activities in order to qualify for consideration. Nominees are also heavily involved in other activities and volunteer work in the school and in the community.
