The Virginia Department of Education would like to recognize professional school counselors during the week of February 3-7, 2020, as we celebrate National School Counseling Week.
The theme for the 2020 National School Counseling Week is entitled “School Counselors: Helping Build Better Humans,” and highlights the tremendous impact school counselors have in helping students achieve school success and plan for the future.
School counselors work with all students to remove barriers to learning by addressing academic concerns, social/emotional issues, and career awareness for postsecondary options. Comprehensive and developmental school counseling programs help to increase student achievement and are a vital part of the educational process for all students.
Please thank the professionals in our Counseling office:
Mr. Karl Zweerink, Freshmen Counselor, Department Chair
Dr. Rachel Loving, Senior Counselor
Ms. Kierstin Streitel, Senior Counselor
Ms. Cynthia Barnes, P/T Senior Counselor
Ms. Joy Cobb, Sophomore & Junior Counselor
Ms. Lisa Ebeling, School Psychologist

In early February, Ms. Streitel will be saying goodbye to Maggie Walker Governor’s School as her family moves out-of-state. “I will truly miss working with everyone at Maggie Walker, said Streitel, where I have had the opportunity to work with so many amazing students, families, and colleagues. I hope to stay in touch!” Kierstin has been a dedicated professional for us and is highly respected among her peers and the students. This is not goodbye but ‘see ya later.’
