Newsweek Rankings and the Institute of Education Sciences

We have been working with Newsweek over the past several months regarding their annual rankings where MLWGS has made progress over the past few years from #16 to #12.  We learned this afternoon that for the development of the 2015 list, Newsweek (for the first time) partnered with Westat (a research firm) and the U.S. Department of Education to produce the 2015 Newsweek High School Rankings.

The U.S. Department of Education’s repository of data is maintained by its Institute of Education Sciences (IES).  We have always known that our data set does not migrate to IES under the MLWGS banner because our students remain part of their local school districts while attending MLWGS.  Rather, our data migrates back to districts and becomes part of IES via district pathways.  Because the data for the rankings this year came from IES, MLWGS is not included.  Additionally, we have historically not appeared in the U.S. News & World Report rankings for the same reason.

We are continuing to engage with Newsweek and will provide an update if additional information becomes available.

Thank you for your continued support of our school (which remains magnificient)!
