The Class of 2017: 188 Graduates. As a class, they performed a total of 37, 081 community service hours. This is an average of almost 200 hours per student. One student from Hanover County had 834 hours. The average Grade Point Average was a 3.98 (this could change with final grades). The average SAT score was 1,419. They are going to 68 different colleges, 108 are staying in-state, 80 are going out-of-state. Of the 108 staying in-state, 90 (or 48%) are going to one of these five state schools: The University of Virginia, The College of William & Mary, Virginia Tech, George Mason University and Virginia Commonwealth University. Thirteen were National Merit Finalists and 57 more received Commendations in the National Merit Program. Four are receiving National Merit Scholarships. Three were Presidential Scholar candidates.

Two Walker seniors, (1) Chesterfield and (1) Hanover, were awarded one of the 34 UVA prestigious Jefferson Scholarships. Awarded solely on the basis of merit, Jefferson Scholarships are granted to candidates who have undergone a rigorous selection process.
Walker senior was selected by the American Council of Teachers of Russian as a National Russian Scholar Laureate for 2016.
Walker senior named Distinguished Finalists in the 2017 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards in Virginia and the President’s Volunteer Service Award, going on to be awarded Bronze.
Walker senior advances to Virginia finals of the 2017 Poetry Out Loud contest.
The 2016 Yearbook took First Place in the American Scholastic Press Association yearbook competition.
We the People win National title. After two days of competition held April 22-23, 2017 in the Washington, DC area, the MLWGS team advanced to the final round of competition on Monday, April 24th. Final standings were announced with representatives from almost all 50 states for more than 1,200 high school students. This win marks the 3rd time in the competition’s 30 year history that an MLWGS team has won the title.
We the People win its 19th State title in January 2017. Walker heads to the national competition in Washington, DC in April.
Walker Model Congress hosts its annual conference with keynote speaker Governor Terry McAuliffe, February 10-11, 2017.
Model United Nations Club hosts The Honorable Ehud Barak, the former Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Israel and Dr. Mohamed Elbaradei, Director General Emeritus of The International Atomic Energy Agency, at GSMUN XX, March 24-25, 2017.
MW team wins Virginia Regional Governor’s Challenge in Economics competition in March 2017 and advances to state competition.
MLWGS Wins VHSL 2A East Scholastic Bowl Conference and Regional competitions then win the State title at William and Mary.
MLWGS was successful as the 2017 Regional Debate Champions.
The Walker team wins the SABR Diamond Dollars Case Competition as the only high school team in the nation, March 2017.
The Mech Tech Dragons succeed at the Greater DC Robotics Event March 9-11, 2017. The Dragons came away with a community operations award, the Entrepreneurship Award. A junior member of the team drove in her 100th match at this competition, a HUGE milestone!
Future Problem Solvers team earns 4th Place at International Competition in June 2017.
Walker student is named 2017 YoungArts Finalist in Visual Arts.
Four Walker students gain eligibility into the All-Virginia Orchestra by way of participation in the Senior Regional Orchestra Event in November. A junior earns All-State Orchestra seat.

Spring Drama: ‘Pippin‘ performed March 2-4, 2017.
2017 Scholastic Art Awards: MLWGS has 76 total awards: 19 Gold Keys including 4 Portfolios, 21 Silver Keys including 1 Portfolio, and 36 Honorable Mentions including 2 Portfolios.
2017 Scholastic Writing Awards: MLWGS has 15 total awards among 10 students: 5 Gold Keys, 5 Silver Keys, and 5 Honorable Mentions.
Walker wins the VHSL 2A Wells Farge Cup for the fourth straight year. The award is presented to schools who succeed across all sports.
(3) Lexus of Richmond, Pursuit of Perfect Leadership Award Weekly Winners: October 3rd, November 14th, and April 28th.
MW senior earns The Allstate Foundation/VHSL Achievement Award 2017, awarded during the school year, honoring one male athlete, one female athlete and one academic activities participant in each of the VHSL’s group classifications plus one student from any group who has overcome incredible odds to make significant contributions to athletic and/or academic activities.
Two seniors sign a national letter of intent for The University of Akron and Loyola University to play soccer. One senior signs national letter of intent with VCU for tennis.

Congratulations Maggie Walker Cross Country…Boys and Girls 2A Regional Winners for the fourth consecutive year with one individual champion! Seniors on these teams have never been defeated.

Walker Boys & Girls athletes compete at the Cross Country National Championship in Hoover, Alabama December 2016 with three runners earning All-American Honors.
Walker Golf, Conference 33 Champions, 2016, 4th consecutive year.
Walker Golf had the first girl, in school history, to qualify for the girls state golf tournament.
Two MW students win titles at 2A East Diving Regionals & State Competition, 1st place, and 2nd place. This first place finish at State was the third consecutive for our diver.
MLWGS Swim Teams at Regional & State Competition: At the Regional swim meet, the Girls came in 1st, and earned their third consecutive championship title at States, while the Boys earned their first ever 1st place finish at States.
2016-2017 Girls Indoor Track are ‘4-peating’ VHSL State Champions. The boy’s team took 3rd place.
Spring Sports 2017 boasts five state championship teams: Girls Tennis, Boys Tennis, Boys Soccer, Girls Track and Boys Track.
